Safe and Promising Courses After 10th Grade:

The results for the 10th-grade examinations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for 2023 will be released soon. After 10th grade, one of the major questions that arises among students is, "Which course is the right one for a better future?"

Don't just choose a course because your friends, classmates, neighbors, or relatives are choosing it. Remember, the course you choose after 10th grade will shape your future. Intermediate (Class 11 & 12) is a turning point in a student's life. The course selected in Intermediate will determine their career path. So, students must first identify which subject they are good at, and understand which field they are interested in for the future.

For example, there are many fields like law, medicine, engineering, government services, business management, etc. If students choose a course related to their field of interest, they will have a better chance of a successful career. Let’s explore various Intermediate groups, Polytechnic, special diplomas, vocational courses, and ITI options.

Intermediate Groups:

MPC (Maths, Physics, Chemistry):
Students who aspire to become engineers can choose this group. After Intermediate, they can appear for entrance exams like IIT, NIT, EAMCET, JEE Main, BITSAT, etc., and get admission into top engineering colleges. A strong foundation during Intermediate helps secure a good rank. After MPC, students can also pursue B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D., and even go into research.

BiPC (Biology, Physics, Chemistry):
Students aiming for a medical career must choose BiPC in Intermediate. After BiPC, they can appear for exams like NEET, AIIMS, JIPMER, CMC, and pursue MBBS to become doctors.

CEC, MEC:
In the current corporate era, these courses are in high demand. Students interested in business, commerce, and data analysis can opt for CEC or MEC. These groups are ideal for students planning to pursue Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy, Company Secretary, and other professional courses in commerce.

HEC (History, Economics, Civics/Commerce):
This group includes traditional subjects. Along with regular degree courses, students also have access to job-oriented diploma courses. With higher education, students can aim for public service commission jobs in state and central governments.

ITI/ITC (Industrial Training Institutes):

These provide technical training and function under the Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGET), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Courses range from 3 months to 3 years and include engineering and non-engineering trades like Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Plumber, Instrument Mechanic, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Turner, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, etc. After completing these courses, students can work as apprentices and find job opportunities in Railways, Army, Police, Paramilitary forces, and private companies.

Polytechnic:

This is a 3-year engineering diploma course. It’s a cost-effective option to gain employment quickly. Polytechnic builds a strong base for technical education and offers early employment. Admissions are through the Polytechnic Common Entrance Test conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training. Based on rank, students can get into government or private polytechnic colleges. Diploma holders can enter directly into the second year of engineering (B.Tech/BE) through the lateral entry scheme by appearing for ECET. These courses also support self-employment.

Three-Year Polytechnic Courses:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Automobile Engineering
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering

Three-and-a-half-Year Polytechnic Courses:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Embedded Systems
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering

Agricultural Polytechnic Courses (2 Years):

These include:

  1. Diploma in Agriculture
  2. Diploma in Seed Technology
  3. Agricultural Engineering Diploma

Eligibility: Only 10th-grade pass-outs are eligible. Those who have completed Intermediate or higher are not eligible. Admissions are based on the AGRI POLYCET exam. These courses lead to job opportunities in fertilizer companies, pesticide industries, and seed manufacturing firms.

Vocational Courses:

These are two-year courses offered in Intermediate. There are six categories, including:

  • Crop Production and Management
  • Accounting and Taxation
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • Office Assistantship
  • Automobile Engineering Technician
  • Mechanical Engineering Technician
  • Electronics Engineering Technician
  • Electrical Technician

Key Points about Vocational Intermediate Courses:
Students who complete technical groups under vocational courses are eligible for direct entry into the second year of Polytechnic. ITI students who pursue these can appear for the National Council of Technical Education’s apprentice exam. Job opportunities are available in central government sectors like Railways, GAIL, SAIL, and other large companies.
